Mongo Beti – Republic of Cameroon- (1932-2001)
Mongo Beti is, undoubtedly, one of the most prolific and most renowned writer in Cameroon. Famous novelist, born under the name of Alexandre Biyidi Awala, he was also a committed essayist, teacher, bookseller and publisher. In 1953, he published the short story “Sans haine et sans amour” in the magazine Présence Africaine. From 1958 onwards, he held various positions as a professor of literature France. In 1978, he launched the magazine Peuples noirs – Peuples africains, published until 1991.
