The lines of Continuity
The most direct confrontation is the alignment of Negritude with Negativity. The question of being challenged, called or located in an identity subordinate to another humanity is well documented. By these means, the human subject of African descent is necessarily fixed in an identity position which is already subordinate, hence racial displacement and the fracture into several other identities. “Black” and “Negritude” have become terms of empowerment and re-semantization out of abjection. They accompany the activism of African peoples who have also used “Black Aesthetics” to reclaim black subjectivity for political and creative use.
