King Mohammed V -Morocco- (1909-1961)
Sidi Mohammed, or Sidi Mohammed ben Youssef, born on 10 August 1909 in Fez and who died on 26 February 1961 in Rabat, is the Sultan of the Cherifian Empire (1927-1957) and, following the independence of the kingdom in 1956, he became the King of Morocco (1957-1961) under the name of Mohammed V. This Alaouite monarch backed the main Moroccan Independence Movement, the Istiqlal in 1944, and opposed the continuation of French and Spanish domination.
