Paul Kagame -Rwanda- (1957)
Born on 23 October 1957 in Gitarama, central Rwanda, Paul Kagame has been the Rwandan Head of State since 2000. In 1990, he became head of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and leads his troops to victory after the genocide of 1994. Vice President and Minister of Defence from 1994 to 2000, Paul Kagame is elected President of the Republic by Parliament on 17 April 2000. As a result of the establishment of a new Constitution, he is elected by universal suffrage in 2003, then re-elected in 2010 and for a third term on August 5, 2017 (98.8% of the total votes). He is also the Chairperson of the African Union from 2018 to 2019. He presents the economic development, the intensive work of the Rwandans, the fight against corruption and the requirement for “good governance” as major pillars of his policy.
