Mongo Beti – Republic of Cameroon- (1932-2001)

Mongo Beti is, undoubtedly, one of the most prolific and most renowned writer in Cameroon. Famous novelist, born under the name of Alexandre Biyidi Awala, he was also a committed essayist, teacher, bookseller and publisher. In 1953, he published the short story « Sans haine et sans amour » in the magazine Présence Africaine. From 1958 onwards, he held various positions as a professor of literature France. In 1978, he launched the magazine Peuples noirs – Peuples africains, published until 1991.
